Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Tapestry

My anxiety has been at an all time high since January 20. I always find that weaving decreases this stress, especially when I weave pieces that directly refer to the social injustices that are bothering me. So the fist of a series of possibly 4 tapestries will be about DEI.

I designed this piece with the intent of having an abstract piece that could be interpreted by the viewer. I’m once again using color to support my intention for the piece. The circle of skin tone pentagons surrounding a DNA strand, represent diversity and the background is the rainbow flag colors for inclusion. Each pentagon has the same color strands of DNA threaded through them. The DNA strand in the center uses a twill weave technique and supplemental warp to help the DNA stand out from the piece.
